He works across Auckland building timber and composite decks, stairs and balustrades, pergolas and tiled outdoor areas. The substructure gets the same care as the boards you walk on, because that's the part that decides whether a deck lasts ten years or thirty.
If a repair is the smarter option, he'll say so. If your idea won't work on your site, he'll tell you that too — and then explain what will.

- How much does a new deck cost in Auckland?
- It depends on size, height off the ground, materials and access. A simple low-level pine deck is far cheaper than an elevated kwila deck with balustrades and steps. Paul will give you a written price after a site visit so you know exactly where you stand before committing to anything.
- Timber or composite decking — which should I choose?
- Timber like kwila has warmth and character that's hard to beat, and it can be re-oiled to bring the colour back. Composite costs more up front but doesn't need oiling and holds its colour. Paul builds both and will tell you which suits your site, your budget and how much maintenance you actually want to do.
- Do I need a building consent for a deck?
- Many low decks under 1.5m above ground don't require consent, but it depends on height, whether it's attached to the house and your site conditions. Paul knows the Auckland Council rules well and will tell you early on whether consent is likely, rather than after work starts.
- Which parts of Auckland do you cover?
- Auckland wide — the North Shore, Central, East, West and South Auckland. If you're on the fringe, give Paul a call and he'll tell you straight away.
- Can you repair or replace an existing deck?
- Yes. Plenty of work is replacing tired boards, rotten joists or unsafe steps and balustrades. Sometimes a re-board is all that's needed; other times the substructure has had its day. Paul will show you what he finds and explain the options.
- How long does a deck take to build?
- Most residential decks take between a few days and a couple of weeks on site, depending on size, ground conditions and whether steps, seating or balustrades are involved. You'll get a realistic timeframe with your quote.
